8th March is celebrated all over the world as International Women’s Day. It’s a day dedicated to the amazing and outstanding womankind, so, happy women’s day to all the strong and beautiful women out there. But, women’s day does not mean celebrating being a woman for a day only. It’s time that we start celebrating every day, every moment of our lives. We should celebrate our strength and we should learn to love and respect ourselves in each passing moment. Throughout my life, I’ve met several women who have inspired me. Some of them are from the real world and some belong to the fictional world that never felt unreal. In a way or another, all of them have motivated me to become a better version of myself. In this article, I will share about 25 fictional characters who have motivated me in my daily life.

1. Hermione Granger – The Harry Potter Series

Hermione Granger was the brightest witch of her age. Like any other Gryffindor she was brave and adventurous, but that’s not it. She was a great friend and an exceptionally smart girl as well. Her intelligence and quick thinking saved her friends multiple times. As Emma Watson said, “Young girls are told you have to be a delicate princess. Hermione taught them that you can be a warrior.”

2. Elizabeth Bennet – Pride and Prejudice

Elizabeth Bennet was a woman whose thinking was centuries ahead of her time. In an era where young women were taught to be a perfect lady and the society thought, the only ambition of a woman should be to become a housewife, Lizzie decided to be a self-sufficient woman who wouldn’t hesitate to express her opinions and ideas. She spoke her mind and that’s where feminism starts.

While reading ‘Gone with the Wind’, there comes a moment when we all want to slap Scarlett O’Hara yet we could not deny the fact that her strength was unbeatable. She made a lot of mistakes in her life, she suffered, but her spirit never died.

4. Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games Series

She never thought herself as a hero, but she inspired an entire nation to rebel against the autocratic government in the best-selling dystopian novel. But, it was not only her sacrifice that encouraged the young women, it was her determination and indomitable strength of mind which earned her our respect.

5. Mary Poppins – Mary Poppins

When I was a little girl, I wanted to be Mary Poppins because she could solve all the problems with her magic. Still, I want to be like Mary Poppins. Obviously, having the magical power is not possible. But, she was kind and she faced all the challenges with bravery. I’m sure she does not only inspire little girls, her strength inspires women at every age.

6. Elle Woods – Legally Blonde

In a male-dominated society, it’s difficult for a girl to make her own place. And when a woman chooses a feminine appearance, she becomes an easy victim of stereotyping. Elle Woods actually taught me the world can be nasty, but that does not mean you have to change your beliefs to match the thinking of the crowd.

Jane Eyre was published in the first half of the 19th century, yet she inspires modern women. Mulan was not a fearless soul. But, what makes Mulan unique is her fear did not stop her to set foot in an unexplored territory. Every woman, who has watched the film at a young age learned not to think she can’t do something, just because she is a woman. We call it girl power.

9. Blair Waldorf – Gossip Girl

Blair Waldorf was a force to be reckoned with. She showed the world you have to become intimidating sometimes to earn the respect you deserve. Blair made the people around her to awe her. In a world full of judgmental people, you will be judged by everyone mercilessly. Brooke was not an exception in this case. What made Brooke Davis stand out in the crowd is, she forced the world to judge her by her work, and not by her appearance.  She was proud of being herself and that’s what made us love her.

This list is incomplete without her. A woman who has been challenged by her situation everyday, came out as a winner against every odd. She never let her circumstances decide her fate. 19. Stella Gibson – The Fall

I wish I were Stella Gibson. She is one of the strongest woman I’ve ever come across till today. Describing Stella is easy. She never let the society dominate her free will. She just wanted to give her best to her job where she is nothing less than the best. It’s time that we all get over with the social standard of how a woman should behave just the Stella did. What say?

20. Lisbeth Salander – The Girl With Dragon Tattoo

From the name of the story, you can feel this story is about an extremely strong woman. Smart and shrewd Lisbeth was someone who knew the foul world very well. If she taught anything to the world that is do not put up with any kind of injustice ever!

21. Queenie Goldstein – The Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them

At the first sight of Queenie, you might not consider her as a woman with any extraordinary characteristic. And here is where you are wrong. She proved she is not only an awesome wizard but a brave, intelligent, witty woman with a unique personality. She is an admirable woman and we can’t but love her style. Queenie proved you can dress up like a girly girl or a tomboy or however you want and yet be a strong person.

Fierce and ambitious, Jessica Pearson is a kick-ass woman we look up to. ‘Formidable’! This one word is more than enough to describe her. She possess great leadership quality and she was fiercely devoted towards her duty. This list would have been worthless if I don’t mention McGonagall who has inspired me with her wisdom and motivated me with her dedication since the very first day I came across her.

25. Sati – The Shiva Trilogy

Last but not the least, Sati from the Shiva Trilogy. A woman who is source of the ultimate inspiration for me. She was a skilled and fierce warrior but that’s not what made her a powerful character to admire. It was her ability of discovering and accepting the truth, which makes her an inspiration for the readers. It’s not easy to embrace the truth when you are made to believe otherwise throughout your life but she did not only accept it, she fought for the  same till her last breath.
